Summarizing is an easier form of writing for me because once you understand the story shorting it and basically telling the story is an easy way to write. We have been learning how to do this since grade school. The article I used was about the similarities and differences between rap and country western music. I liked the article but it was hard to summarize because she used a lot of quotes in her writing. We were told not to quote a quote in our essays and this proved to be difficult. If I would have rewritten this essay I might have taken me my time to fix the little stuff like font and commas. This is were I always come up because I figure if the writing is okay nothing else matters. I will keep what I have written the same. I used my knowledge of rap music to guide me through this essay, it helped me to better understand where the author was coming from on her stance with rap music. But because I don’t like western music I couldn’t have good knowledge on her point of view with western music.

I am good at thinking of what I want to write. I like planning it out and thinking about it. The part I struggle is putting the words on paper so that the audience understands exactly the same way I do. The essay was easy to write because the point of it was to explain you and your writing not some elses point of view and their writing. I would spend more time explaining how writing affects me. It affects me because I get nervous I feel as if I am always missing a piece of the puzzle when I write a paper. I would stick with what I wrote but I would add on to it. I really don’t like writing unless it is a free write because there are no rules or regulations to follow. I would like writing papers more if I could understand how to put the rules and regulations together better on my papers. I would rather write on the spot then take my time because on the spot the ideas are fresh and I don’t second guess myself. Taking time to write papers means I will have more time to get distracted.

The articles that choose for this essay were Malcolm X, Our bodies and the homeless and going to school one. These articles are difficult to relate to each other because of how different they are topic wise. But I found a way and I’m glad it made me think deep and hard about it because it made me pay more attention to the stories and their importance.

Citing things in papers has always been hard for me. That is because citing is like math I think I know what I am doing but I seem to always miss a part of the solution. I put the period in a wrong place or I forget to add something when I am doing the works cited paper. I did find that TS/CD was a good way to format the paper because it made it easier to explain and make the paper flow better. I will use the this format for all my paper to come because it makes it easier to format and you are not sitting their scratching your head wondering how you are going write the paper so it makes sense.

This essay was a hard essay for me to write. I found it hard to relate the stories I picked. They all were about overcoming obstacles and doing what they knew was right in their heart even though know else was agreeing with them. I didn’t like having to pick from the stories given to us because it took me awhile to figure out how to bring them together. The structure of the essay was easy because I did compare the stories then contrast the stories. I always find it difficult to get started because that is what sets the tone of essay.

Humor can be defined as making you laugh, smile or uplifting your spirits. When I think of humor I picture your friend telling you a funny moment in their day or maybe a movie of series of funny events that could happen to you. Jim Carrey movies are funny but they aren’t that relatable. Laughing out loud when something is funny is not necessary because it will make me smile or laugh in my head which makes me think about it harder. The cocaine dealer article was funny because it was so stupid and stupidity is the easiest way to make someone laugh. Style is the confidence and the way you present yourself to the world. I feel the people who look the most put together no matter what they are wearing and flaunt it are the ones with style.

My resume is coming along great. I have made a resume before so this is easy. The only trouble I am having is finding the dates for places I have worked or volunteered. I was also having trouble with how I should format it and how much I should detail about my past work experiences. I like being able to look at everything I have accomplished and type it all out on paper because I have found a job since making my last resume.

For Essay # 4 I found an old vintage ad for coca cola. This appealed to me because of the writing and how easy it was to relate to it. I originally chose an ad for a smart phone but realized it wasn’t for me because I don’t like smart phones and wouldn’t be able to relate or say what appealed to me. I liked the ad because it represented joy and happiness by the moment it captured in the advertisement. I also love coke it is my favorite soft drink and I feel the ads are always joyous and uplifting. The appeal that worked on me was escape because the ad took place on a beach. The people in the ad looked so tan and relaxed even as they were getting hit by a wave.

This semester for English I have learned manys new ways to write a paragraph, how fill a paper and ways how to write about the media or arts. Tc/ds/cm/dc are great ways to write a paragraph and simple to remember with these tools for writing I will always be able to at least write something so as long as I follow the paragraph rule. Transition sentences are going to be a great tool for my biology papers and papers over five pages long. I never really understood how to write about pictures or still photographs but now I do.

          I really enjoyed reviewing the tools that we had already learned for English class. The good thing about reviewing was that you added to what we already and polished it up. Like with citations and the whole grammar thing. I also enjoyed that you sat down with me individually as a student and told me where I needed to improve this motivated me to get my homework done because you me what I needed to turn in.

          I just got accepted into Illinois State University earlier today. I’m glad taking this English class with you next semester because you work with me to achieve my goals. I know many students at ISU who have already written 10 page papers. That is something I know I would have struggled with. By going to your class next semester I feel confident that my grade will get better and that if I have an issue I have no trouble talking to you about it.

I didn’t know anything about these concepts.  I learned about the rhetorical situations in depth how you don’t need always come up with the right answer. It’s more about what goes into good writing and how you phrase it. I need to first understand what rhetorical meant by going to the dictionary and looking it up. So I could understand what rhetorical situations were and they are purpose, audience, genre, stance, and design. I learned what the different categories were of writing different genres. Whether it be a resumes or a lab report. I want to incorporate the rhetorical situations in my future papers because it helps put structure in the essays. I can incorporate genres by having it help me write a resume and job letters. Maybe next year when I take a science class genre will help write a lab report. These concepts were difficult because I have never heard about these. I found this interesting because there are names for every part of writing a paper whether it be purpose or design. Genre was interesting because I knew the different styles of writing but I didn’t they classified as genres. I found it informative because now when I write my papers I can explain my purpose and stance in my papers. Now if I have any questions about what type of genre I’m writing about all I have to do is look in the book.
